Baby Shower
My first baby shower was held back in April. It was hosted by Grandma Mary Anne and my Great Aunt Patty flew out from Colorado to be there for it. Since I'm such a special guy, Grandma Gale decided to have a shower for me also. Her friend Pattie hosted at her house. I slept or ate through the whole thing but it sounded like everyone had a great time. I got some awesome gifts.
They had my name up on the mantle.
That's Grandma Gale on the left and Pattie on the right.
There was a bunch of food, but I didnt have any of it. I brought my food with me (Momma)
This is my Great Grandma Lenora. This was my first time meeting her. I really liked her!
Dont mind me...I'm eating. This is Momma and her friend Shannon.
Grandma Mary Anne came. She's good at putting me to sleep!
See?
Check out all the presents everyone brought! Like I said, I was sleeping, so Momma was nice enough to open them for me.
Halfway through the gifts, I got really hungry! So Momma fed me and Dad took over.
I had a great time!

Growth Spurt
I'm 7 weeks old today! I cant believe how fast time is going by. It seems like just yesterday Momma and Dad brought me home from the hospital. That could just be my poor understanding of the passage of time though.
I've been going through a growth spurt the past few days. They make me really fussy and I cluster feed. Cluster feeding is when I eat every 30 minutes or less for hours at a time. Momma and I spend a lot of time together during my growth spurts.
Two days ago I developed diarrhea. My parents thought it was from my Zantac, but when Momma called the pediatrician, she said it was more likely a viral infection and to watch for fever or blood in my stool. She said it should disappear in 7-10 days and to make sure I stay hydrated. I'm feeling better today though, and since I didnt have any other symptoms, Momma is convinced that it was the Zantac that did it.
I have an appointment to see a pediatric GI next Weds. We want to make sure that my reflux isnt a symptom of an underlying gastro issue and see what the deal is with all my gassiness.
I'll be posting pictures of my baby shower within the next few days, so you can all see how adorable I looked. I slept or ate the entire time, but everyone else seemed to have a great time.
My Momma's friend Shannon got me an awesome play mat that I'm quite taken with. Its got animals that hang from it and a mirror that attaches to it, and its super colorful! Now that I am 7 weeks old, I can recognize patterns and shapes, so it is a really fascinating place for me to spend time.
Also, I'm finally big enough to wear the cloth diapers Momma got for me (and Grandma Mary Anne got a red pair and a brown pair for me too!)
They're called little Gdiapers. They have disposable, biodegradable inserts that can be flushed, trashed or composted. The cotton outside is soft and absorbent and colorful! The only downside is having a "g" on my butt.
Anyway, time for me to take another nap. I've actually been napping today, which is very unusual for me. Yesterday I was up from 8am to 8pm with short 10 minute naps every 4 hours or so. Today I've already taken 2 hour and a half long naps and feel ready for another one now.
This is what I look like when I sleep. Cute, right?

Big!
Our Zantac experiment was short lived. I started screaming and arching my back again almost immediately after my missed dose. So we've started back up with it. Momma is going to call the pediatrician tomorrow to see what to do for my gassiness. My tummy is huge and I feel awful!
Despite my fussiness, we made it to our lactation support group meeting. Momma guessed my exact weight before I was weighed. I'm 8lbs, 3oz! I'm getting to be such a big boy! Now if we could just get all my digestive issues resolved, I'd be perfectly happy.

New Stuff
What a busy week! For starters, I've been having painful gas since I started taking Zantac. I've been keeping Momma and Dad up all night. If I'm not eating or sleeping, I'm crying. Momma got the non-flavored Zantac for me but I hate it just as much as the regular kind. They've decided to take me off the medication for a few days to see if my gas clears up and to see how severe the silent reflux really is.
To help with the reflux, Momma got a wedge nursing pillow to keep me elevated while I eat. I'm not too keen on it yet.
She also got a Snuza Go Movement Monitor. Its different than a regular monitor because it tracks my breathing and alerts Momma if I dont breathe for 15 seconds. I will be wearing it at night to give Momma extra peace of mind.
She got both of them from a website called Zulily that has great deals on stuff for moms and babies. She was able to save even more than if she had ordered through amazon!
Saturday will be my second baby shower, hosted by Grandma Gale. I'll be meeting a ton of new people, though at this stage of my life, almost everyone is new!
And lastly, just because I dont want to make a post that leaves you all wishing for a new picture of my handsome face, here's a photo Momma took today during one of my few quiet moments:
Look at that double chin! I think I'm 8 lbs now. Hopefully we'll go to our lactation support group tomorrow so I can get weighed!

Tiny Tummy Trouble
My tummy has been driving me crazy! At first, I had a hard time pooping. I finally got that figured out, and then Mommy noticed that I was making a lot of gulping noises and arching my back a lot. She did some research online and realized I probably have silent reflux. Silent reflux is a lot like regular acid reflux, except that I dont spit up. Instead, when the acid travels up my esophagus, I swallow it back down. In the long term it can cause damage to my esophagus. She took me to the doctor and the doctor prescribed me Zantac.
When I dont feel well, Grandma Gale gives me tummy time on my Boppy pillow. She always helps my tummy feel better.
I dont like taking my Zantac, because it is peppermint flavored and has alcohol in it. Mommy is going to see if a compounding pharmacy can remove the alcohol and give me a flavorless version. In addition, Mommy and Dad elevated my bassinet mattress and I get held upright for at least 15 minutes after eating.
I usually fall right asleep when held upright after eating. Here I am snoozing away happily. Hopefully the Zantac will make me feel better soon!

I'm New Here
My first week at home I did a lot of sleeping. The world is much louder, colder and brighter than my previous residence and it was tiring trying to adjust.
Here I am napping in my awesome pack n play that my Great Aunt Patty and Great Uncles Butch and KC got me. I lost some weight the first few days home, so I was probably only 5lbs 4 oz here.
Here I am on my way to my first doctor's appointment. I didnt have a great time. Grandma Mary Anne came with us and sang me lullabies.
For the first 4 weeks of my life I pretty much ate, slept and pooped. It's pretty exhausting work.
First Post!
Hello friends and family! Welcome to your source for all things Neiko! Mommy will be helping me update regularly so that we can all stay connected. Let's start with some basics:
After 15 hours of labor, I made my way into the world. I was much smaller than expected, at a mere 5 lbs 10 oz. Luckily, I was also cuter than expected, so it made up for my tiny stature.
There I am, just a few hours after birth. And that, as you all know, is my Mommy.
After so much work trying to get out, I was pretty exhausted.
I'm a pretty popular guy so I had lots of visitors! This is Grandma Gale.
And this is Grandma Mary Anne. She looks so happy to meet me, hope she didn't mind me napping...
